Other Half

We all joke about it from time to time.

"Where's your better half?"

"How's your other half doing?"

We all say it and we all hear it at least once or twice in our lives. Most of us believe it, too. I believe that Joe's my other half. I certainly feel a little less "me" when he's gone. Like, maybe I can't fully be myself without him around... Even though it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You'd think I'd be more "me" when I'm alone. I just don't think that's true. At least not for me.

A while back, I posted a status on facebook that said something like "Sarah [insert last name here] misses her hubby. God totally wasn't kidding about the whole "two shall become one" thing." Most people got a laugh out of it. Including me. =)

Personally, I believe it's true. Now, God didn't take a rib from Joe and miraculously create me out of it like He did with Adam and Eve. But I do believe that I was created for Joe and he for me. Call me crazy, but I think there IS that one person for each of us who are called to be married. {Like Paul said, I believe that some people really are called to be single.} I think God does something a little different these days when a man and a woman get married. I think it goes exactly like God says it does:

"Therefore a man shall leave his mother and father and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 2:24

I believe that something wonderful and special happens not only on the wedding night, but on the wedding day when the "I dos" are said. The joining of the two that happens on the wedding night (wink, wink) is just as important and sacred as what the couple has professed with their mouths.

These days, marriage is seen as something almost flippant and it breaks my heart. It's special. It's not to be entered into lightly. It's ordained by God. And, contrary to popular belief, it should be unbreakable and lifelong.

"The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, andthe two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Matthew 19:3-6

You ask, "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.
Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.
"I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty.
So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.

Malachi 2:14-16

"In flesh and spirit they are his." So, we are one after all. =) I think what I find most strange about the "oneness" of our marriage is how much alike we act now. I mean, we were always a little cooky, funny, and sort of strange, but I think it's only gotten worse over the last 2 years! I find myself doing things that he does, even things that usually annoy me! Like leaving cabinet doors open or leaving clothes on the floor. Or eating pizza like crazy. I never did that before. NEVER. But, now it's almost the norm. We often say the same thing at the same time. I don't remember that happening before either. I can almost predict what he's going to say or do. We still have disagreements every once in a while but, for the most part, we agree on a lot. Which is saying something considering how much we bickered in the first year we were dating. It's like we were so much alike when we were dating and now that we're married it just increased exponentially! I think that could only be God's doing. And I am totally okay with that. =) At the very least, our kids will have some entertainment, right?!

So, here's to my other half, my best friend, my husband, my Soldier and my hero. He's more than I could have ever asked for.

I love you and miss you every day, sweetheart!!!

Psst. I have no idea what's going on with the different font sizes... So, I'm sorry if it's bugging you. I've tried a million times to fix it, to no avail. *sigh*

What a beautiful tribute to your husband. And I totally agree that these days people enter marriage too lightly. I truly believe that my husband and I were meant for each other and that we complete each other. We compliment each other and our personalities rub off on each other.

What a great post! Thanks for linking it up on the mil spouse roundup!
