Joe's company is having a company-wide (I say that like it's a big number or something...) picnic on Wednesday! While I'm super-thrilled about meeting people in Joe's company (and when I say people I mean women who could be my bff while Joe's gone...), I don't know what in the world to bring! Apparently, there was a sign-up sheet for things to bring. Instead of texting or calling to ask me what we'd bring, he went ahead and signed us up for drinks and dessert. Oh, my sweet husband. =)
Honestly, I might have signed me up for that too, but I think it's just funny that he assumes I can whip something up in a jiffy. I like to plan these sorts of things at least a week ahead of time...call me crazy. =)
So, here's my dilemma: it's a "picnic" which means outside. If I make a chilled dessert, it could end up melted and runny. Chilled would be perfect for a picnic other than that. So, what do I go with? I'd love to make cheesecake or something like that
Anyone have any good picnic-y dessert recipes
And after we approach the baking issue, what do I wear?!

You are a braver woman then I. I never use any of my good dishes for picnics. When I make cheesecake, I make them in the tin foil pans so they can be tossed and I don't have to worry about them. If you make a cheesecake, I would put the dish inside a larger dish filled with ice or cold water to help keep it chilled.
Have you looked into making cookie bars? They are a step away from cookies; still easy and yummy but wouldn't put you out too much? What about a brownie invention? Or maybe Monkey Bread?
BTW, you got another new follower
Buy (or make) and angel food cake. Slice it up..put it on a serving platter. Open two cans of pie filling (blueberry & cherry are always good) that will be toppings for the cake, put them in separate bowls. Grab a container of whipped cream! Voila! It's light and tasty for the Summer Picnic!
I'm impressed he tells you. I usually get told the night before right before bed. Uh, baby, I need something to bring to the clinic for a lunch.
I'm always inclined to bring (and eat) cookies because they're so easy. I know it's kind of lame, but oh well.
But Monkey Bread sounds SOOOO good right now.
My favorite picnic dessert is a fruit pizza, and it's so easy to make. I would probably wear a summer dress or some khaki bermuda shorts and a top, still casual but dressier than every day. Hope you have fun!
I'm in awe that you are even contemplating cooking anything. I'm the one that buys something at the store, throws it in my own tupperware, and pretends that I did in fact make it! I'm such a bad Army Wife. LOL!
My deployment BFF (who I met at a unit social event before our husbands deployed!) always bakes one of the Pioneer Woman's pies for unit events. They are soooooo good!

Brownies or ANY type of bar is a safe bet for an event or picnic!!
I hope you meet lots of wives:) I can't wait to do something like this and make new friends!
I would make these:

Super easy and delicious. I replace the panna cotta with a yogurt instead. And if you're worried about them getting warm, get a big pan of ice and set each of them in there. Should keep them warm long enough.
As far as what you wear...I would wear a summer-y dress and a pair of wedges or dressy sandals. Something comfortable and pretty. Easy!
I actually just baked some brownie/cookie bars, they came from a box but I still put effort in and they taste SO GOOD. You could always do that!
Wear a summer dress or shorts and a tank! You'll look fabulous no matter what you wear. Do cupcakes or go buy a new spring form pan and do cheesecake anyway!
Maybe you could do some kind of cake and then some brownies or cookies. I bet they'll like whatever you bring.
Brownies and cookies are easy and not messy which is good for picnics. You could also make some rice crispy treats which would be a big hit with the kids! I am always the first to sign up for desserts on anything. SOme of the biggest hits I have made banana pudding (allrecipes.com has a great recipe that calls for pudding, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream plus a few other things), tiramasu brownie trifle, and dessert cheeseball but all of those need to be cold.
As for what to wear... if it were me I would just wear a cute, casual, and comfy top with a pair of bermuda shorts. But that is coming from a person who never wears cute summer dresses. If you do decide to wear a dress you might check to make sure it isn't windy since you will be outside ;-)
