Butterflies

Well, here we are in NC! We made the 3.5 hr drive yesterday and arrived safely around 2100 (9 p.m.). I thought that this was going to be a relaxing weekend where I wouldn't have to worry about anything but playing with my niece. I now stand [or sit...] corrected.

I realized several things about our moving situation this morning.

1. The place where we have to drop off our car is only open Monday through Friday from 0800 to 1600. Our flight leaves on a Monday at 0730, which means we have to be there at 0530. Seriously?! So, we're going to have to get a hotel in Charleston and rent a car for the weekend. Grrrrr.

2. After all the stressing out I was doing yesterday about having Joe there to sign papers to break our lease, I completely forgot to go by and tell them! Now what?! I'm probably not going back until the day before the movers come!!!!

3. I don't think that the shelter we got Jasper from sent me the correct rabies vaccination form. They sent me one that was signed, yes, but it looks absolutely nothing like the one I got from the vet's office on base. So, if Hawaii doesn't accept this one, Jasper is going to have to get another rabies shot and only then can he get blood work done. Which tacks on about 90 days to the already extremely long 120 day quarantine period. Which is more time my baby is going to be spending several thousand miles away from me. I am not happy.

So, I have butterflies in my tummy because of all this. I'm nervous about flying to Hawaii, nervous about shipping our car {and getting the necessary paperwork together}, nervous about leaving Jasper, nervous about not getting our things when we need them, nervous that our apartment won't let me sign the paperwork to break the lease, and the list continues. Am I the only one that gets worked up like this about a PCS? Or is it just because this is my first "real" PCS? Or maybe it's because we're PCS-ing across the Pacific?

This has turned out to be more involved than I thought it would be...

First of all. I love you and you know that. You have some time to work on almost all of this stuff. And who is truly in control of every detail in our lives...that's right! So, we are both praying like crazy that it will all go smoothly. He is in control and wants you to trust in him for everything. So, about the lease, call and see if a faxed signature of Joe's would work...if they even need his signature. But call and find out. You will be great at all the PCS stuff before long. Have faith...at least is not BFE where you have to deal with customs and all that jazz...

I know the feeling of everything not going the right way as you're leaving for Hawaii. Just try to relax and think about where you're going. I hope you enjoy it more than we did. I'm sure you will but avoid Waianae :) just a helpful tip. We lived on Helemano (you'll understand more of what I'm saying when you get there) and it was the perfection location (if you want to live on post) if not, I recommend living in Mililani. Also you have to visit these places:

Diamond Head
The Shack (miliani location is BEST)
Menchies (frozen yogurt)
North Shore
Matsumotos (shaved ice-North Shore)
Polynesian Culture Center
Pali Lookout (there's a trail if you like to hike and the end result is a beautiful waterfall)
Waimea Bay (jump off the rock) I was baptized right there!!!
Shark's Cove (it's a small beach on your way to North Shore to snorkel and I actually saw a shark there & they say they never come over there-not!)
Maui
Kau'ai
Big Island (the volcano is breathtaking)
Bay Fest (concerts, food, and fun at the Marine Base) Last year I saw Black Eyed Peas and year before was Allen Jackson..sooo much fun!

I can think of a bunch more but you'll discover them all on your own.

As far as your pup, I'd make sure you have your health certificate, rabies tag/paper, and proof that he was quarantined that should be enough....once u get settled make sure you find a great kennel b/c you can't take him home with you when you visit the mainland.

Congrats on your move and can't wait to see pics. Enjoy your last few days in NC.

Hang in there, friend!

Random thought but I find it so weird that moving to hawaii requires quartine when it is within the US I just moved to Germany (5 days ago) and our dog didnt need to be quartined whatsoever.. I told you it was random

I think every PCS is filled with this crazy roller coaster of things that have to be done, but when you are in Hawaii and enjoying your new home, it will all be worth it!! YAY! Girl you are going to have a rockin' tan and i'm a little green :) lol

Hey there...I stumbled across your blog, and I noticed you were PCSing. We moved a few years ago across the ocean to Germany and it was certainly an adventure!

Oy. Stressful. But I'm sure it will all work out in the end. Do you have Joe's papers with you, maybe you can fax his orders to them? I mean, if they have a military clause in your apartment contract, they HAVE to accept those and let you go.

First of all: Breathe. Second: You are not the only one. Third: you can only do so much and things are going to happen the way they are going to happen regardless of whether or not you are stressing. Things are going to be fine, relax, and pray!
